  2. Hi Molly,

My name's Ruby and I'm one of the people who will be blogging with you over the summer as part of the Summer Learning Journey. It's great to see that you have been doing such an amazing job with these activities! We will comment slide by slide to make sure you are getting good feedback.

Slide 1: Great work! Those are some really good facts about Maui. Why were his brothers so mean to Maui do you think? I think they were jealous of Maui's skills.
It's great to read that you have heard some other stories about Maui. He is a large part of Aotearoa's mythology. Have you read the story about how Maui brought fire to the world? If you are interested, here is the link: http://eng.mataurangamaori.tki.org.nz/Support-materials/Te-Reo-Maori/Maori-Myths-Legends-and-Contemporary-Stories/How-Maui-brought-fire-to-the-world

Let me know what you think!
    Cheers,
    Ruby.

  3. Hi Molly,

Slide 2: Great work! It would be scary to move to a new country. I like how you have talked about how they didn't know that New Zealand was there and could have just kept on going for forever. I hadn't thought about that before.
The activity asked you to write a letter to a friend at hom pretending you were one of the first settlers who had left for New Zealand. What sorts of things do you think they would have written in a letter?

    Cheers,
    Ruby.

  4. Hi Molly!

My names Ellee I am also a part of the Summer Learning Journey crew that is blogging with you this summer!
Hope you have had an awesome Christmas and New Years!

    Slide 3: Waka Ama
These are some really great reasons for not wanting to join Waka ama Molly!I didn't think about the possible expenses but that is so true, it might be very expensive.
I think I would like to try it just once, I really like being in the water so I think it would be a cool experience! Is there a different sport or activity you might like to try instead? Mine would be surfing!

    Slide 4: Wharepuni
Great job Molly! This is a really awesome list you have thought of. I really like the carvings on a Wharepuni and I wish we could have these on our homes nowadays! What do you think? Would you like to try living in a Wharepuni?

Your slideshow is looking great Molly, I am looking forward to coming back and commenting on more of your slides :)

  5. Hi again Molly!

Looks like you are working hard on your slideshow, great job!

    Slide 5: Dream Job
Wow! an olympic swimmer that sounds like an amazing job!....but also a hard one! you must train really hard!
Do you have a swimmer you look up to?
I am also curious if you have a favourite swim stroke?

    Slide 6: Favourite meal
mmmmmmmmmm PIZZA! I love pizza, its one of my favourites too! I really like making my own at home so I can choose a whole bunch of random things to put on top.
I am glad that you mentioned your favourite ingredients to use too, you pizzas sound delicious and I am so impressed that your parents make their own dough! so cool!

    Slide 7: Big families
These are some great reasons for not wanting a big family Molly, good thinking! I am the youngest in my family too but sometimes I wish I had a younger brother, that way my older brother might not have bugged me so much! (but I do love him anyway!)

Keep up the awesome work Molly!....Hopefully soon I'll catch up to you, you are powering through the activities, its awesome!
    Ellee :)

    1. Hey Molly!

I do like swimming but I'm not very good at racing ...too slow haha

But I think my favourite stroke might be one my brother invented! haha he likes to call it the butterfly remix and it is basically butterfly backwards ...it is hilarious to watch and he kind of looks like a row boat or something, kind of like Smee at the end of this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zs_U5T3DdzQ

You're the youngest too! Its tough sometimes aye being bossed around!haha my brother and sister are pretty nice to me though so it's not so bad :)

      Ellee :)

  6. Hey Molly!

    Slide 8: Pepeha
Thank you for sharing your pepeha! I think it is a really cool thing to know about. I see you have the German flag on your slide...Do you have family from Germany? That's very cool if you do ..I hope you'll get to visit one day?

    Slide 9: Family Facts
Sounds like your family enjoys a really chilled, relaxed summer! I like that your Dad enjoys picking fresh food, does he grow it in a garden at home?
That's also very cool that you have a hammock that you can swing in. I love hammocks, they always put me to sleep!
I think you Mum is smart putting down ice-cream, do you know what her favourite flavour is? I like goody goody gumdrops! My siblings, cousins and I used to count the amount of gummies we would get and see who got the most!

    Slide 10: Waiata
Greta choice of Waiata Molly! I also like that song, it does have an awesome melody and the poi are really cool! I also like that the lyrics tell you where the poi should be swinging!

Awesome job Molly, your slideshow is so well done and I can see you have really put a lot of effort into making it look beautiful!

    Ellee :)

  7. Hi Molly!

Hope you had a great weekend? I can see you have added more to your slideshow, great job!

    Slide 11: Playing Games
I really like the sound of this game! Do you play it in school often? I feel like it might get really competitive.... I am going to have to try convince my flat mates to come play it with me!!
I also like that you have taken the time to add a picture, your slideshow is looking beautiful!

    Slide 12: Music Festivals
I like that you have given really clear reasons for why you do/don't like a performance. I agree with you I think Te Puku O Te Ika sing beautifully with a lot of respect. I also really liked Tamatea Arikinui because of the amazing poi! it was mesmerising!
I liked the Te Iti Kahurangi performance too but I think it is because I really love the song that they seen, I hadn't heard it in Maori before. Have you heard the original version? Here is a link to the song in case you want to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7ZwViizRwU

Slide 13: Wow! great job with translating these phrases Molly! Once again your presentation is beautiful, I really appreciate all the effort you are putting into your slideshow!
Were there any phrases you didn't need google translate for?

Keep up the great work Molly, it awesome getting to read through you posts!

  8. Hi Molly!

    Slide 14: Waitangi
This is a really great slide Molly, clear to read and I love the picutres! I think the waterfall looks like a pretty cool think to visit, what would you like to do if you went to Waitangi Village?

    Slide 15: Bill Kini Q's
I really like your questions for Bill Kini! I would be really interested in his answers to all of them. I particularly like 'do you think that girls should play rugby or do boxing?'
I am also interested to hear what you think! Would you like to play rugby or give boxing a go?

    Slide 15: Seville Cathedral
Wow! what a beautiful looking cathedral! I can't believe it took 83 years to build. I think that the inside must be just as beautiful as the outside if it took that long! I am sure it would look amazing in real life, would you like to go to Spain so you could see the Seville Cathedral?

    Let me know!
    Ellee :)

  9. Hi Molly!

Did you change the background on your Bill Kini slide...? The rainbow looks really cool but I couldn't remember if it looked like that yesterday.

    Slide 17: Womens Vote
You have brought up some great points here Molly, I think that women are just as capable as men and should be treated equally too! I am also glad to hear that you will be voting when you turn 18, I think this is really important since women weren't always able to do this. Thank you for sharing some really well thought out ideas around women's rights. I'm not sure if you have heard, but Iceland has recently made it illegal for men to be paid more than women - What do you think about that? (I am hoping New Zealand will do the same!)

    Slide 18: Flanders Fields
I agree with you Molly, it is a very beautiful but sad poem. I like that in the poem they mention that now in amongst all of the crosses there are all these poppies growing. I like that the soldiers resting place is surrounded by beautiful flowers. You are right, it is very lucky that we live in such a peaceful country like New Zealand - I feel very grateful and I am glad you do too!

    Slide 19: Silent Movie
These are some really great predictions about what the silent movie Gold Rush could be about. I am impressed at all the ideas you were able to pull from the trailer as it is not the easiest to follow! Would you like to watch the full Gold Rush movie?
I think the closest thing I have seen to a silent movie might be Wall-E, have you seen it?
Definitely not a silent movie ...but close!! :)

Awesome job Molly, your slideshow is looking great!
    Ellee :)

  10. Hi Molly!

    Slide 20: Art Deco
Thanks for sharing your opinion on the art, I think your response is really thoughtful. Is there any reasons why it didn't get full stars? I like the fact that the picture is quite zoomed in, I think its cool that you ca't quite tell what she's up to... I like to think that she is running away from something - what do you think?

    Slide 21: Flight Poem
I really enjoyed reading your poem Molly, it was really well written and I think that the pilots would have felt exactly how you have described! Such a scary flight, I think I would have been curled up in a ball at the back of the plane waiting to land safely!
What do you think? Have you been on a bumpy flight before?

    Slide 22: Dealing with stress
It's really great to hear you don't get too stressed out Molly! I like that you were still able to come up with some ideas of what you might do to help if you did feel stressed though!
I like the Pogo stick and trampoline suggestions, I like to take a walk in the fresh air when I am stressed. I also think that reading a book is a perfect solution, do you have a book that you would read? Mine would be the Alchemist!

Great job Molly, I'm really enjoying reading through your slideshow!
    Ellee :)

  11. Hi Molly!

    Slide 23: Fundraising
These are some really great ideas for fundraising! I would love to hear you play on your piano, do you do performances often? If you want feel free to put a video of you showing off your piano skills!
I also like the idea of making jams out of fruit or selling the veggies - I feel like this is a win-win for everyone! People get food, families get money.

Slide 24: Items for the 1930's
These are some really cool things to take back to the 1930's!
I think it would be amazing to take back toys to the 1930's that they didn't have. I think the kids might think something are magic! I would choose to take back an IPhone because I think people in the 1930's would freak out if they saw what it could do! What do you think?

Slide 25: World War 2 Events
Wow, these are some really important events from World War two. Did you enjoy reading about the War? I went to the War Memorial Museum in Wellington once and there was just soooo many things that happened! It was really interesting but overwhelming.
I enjoyed reading about the events that you have picked though, so I hope you did too!

Keep up the awesome work Molly!
    Ellee :)

  12. Hi Molly!

    Slide 26: James Ward
James sounds like an amazing person! I can't believe he went out onto the wing of his plane to put out a fire while it was in the air! Would you do that? I don't know if I could, I think I'd be too scared. It sounds like he really loved flying, would you like to be able to fly a plane?

    Slide 27: Women at Work
Molly I love this story! You have used some awesome descriptive words and built up a lot of excitement and anticipation during your story. My favourite part would have to be the surprise turn of events with the friendly dolphin! I think it is so cool that the patients and nurses were helped back to shore by a dolphin, I definitely wasn't expecting that.

    Slide 28: VE Day!
This sounds like an awesome VE day party! I like that you have a back-up plan in case you run out of food. What fruits and vegetables do you grow in your garden?
I think that Fish n Chips is a great idea for food, it's easy and delicious. I really like to eat chip buddies! What do you like to have from the Fish n Chip shop?

Amazing work Molly, I hope the weather hasn't caused too many problems for you and your family!
    Ellee :)

  13. Kia ora Molly,
My name is Patricia and I am part of the team for the Summer learning Journey.
    Slide 29: W2 D5 A2: Making a Fashion Statement
On this activity you are required to:
"Compare the pictures of common clothing from the late 1940s to what you wear now (i.e. in 2017). Are they similar or are they quite different? "
I agree with you Molly as I think the type of clothes we wear nowadays are much more comfortable and practical if compared to 1940s.
Furthermore the activity task request that you answer this question: "What do you think people will be wearing 65 years from now?" In order for you to gain full points for this activity I will need that you answer that and let me know.

    Keep up the good work!
    Kia Kaha,
    Patricia

  14. Kia ora Molly,
    Me again :0)
    Slide 30 : W2 D5 BONUS:
I always make a chocolate cake that is very similar to this one. My daughter and I love it! I mean, who doesn't like chocolate cake?! Thanks for sharing the recipe and for adding a image of the cake as well. The photo of the cake really helped to create a visual support for this post. Well done!
For the future consider to mention the activity that you are answering as this would create a more fluid writing style. For example, you could have started your post with something along this line: 'For this activity we are required to share a recipe of our favourite sweet treat or dessert. My favourite sweet treat is chocolate cake. I will share with you the recipe for this delicious cake ...'
    Dig in and keep blogging!
    Kia kaha,
    Patricia

  15. Hi Molly!

I was really excited to see more slides on your slideshow today Molly! I am really happy that you are doing so well on the activities for the Summer Learning Journey, you are a really wonderful blogger and should feel really proud of your work!

Slide 31: Meat and Three Veg
These are some really well thought out reasons why you would not follow the meat and three veg rule Molly. I like that you have thought about the cost of meat, this is very true - meat can be expensive, especially if you are buying it for every night! Do you ever have meals without meat at home?

    Slide 32: Popular Names
That's interesting that your name is a popular one at your school! Do you have to go by your last name? I have never had another Ellee at school with me before so I am unsure what it would be like, does it ever get frustrating?

    Slide 33: TV Show
Spongebob! I used to watch Spongebob after school too! Do you have a favourite character? I think I liked Patrick the best, he is very goofy! I really like the episode where he looses his head and turns smart... have you seen that one?
I also like the episodes where they have songs, the funsong is my favourite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og8NywgVebU

Thanks again for putting so much effort into your slideshow Molly, you are a superstar!

I have really enjoyed commenting on your work over the Summer, your slideshow is really great, I am sorry that I haven't quite caught up to you though - I thought it might be a little too much to fill up your inbox with my comments! :)

Yeah Sandy the Squirrel is pretty cool (I like her little home!)

I could imagine doing that every time (I would get really confused I think!) I am glad it isn't too much of a problem though... :)

Thanks for the reply Molly, keep up the amazing work!

  16. Hi Molly!

    Just me again :)

    Slide 34: The Beatles
These are great facts that you have found from the article for the Beatles!
I can’t believe how crazy their fans were…. I think I would have been intimidated by all 7,000 of them. What do you think it would have been like to come off of a plane to that?
I think it would be scary...I don’t think I would be very good at being famous - would you like to be famous? Maybe it would be cool to just try it out for a day!

    Slide 35: The 3 R’s
Hey Molly, just wanted to let you know that for this activity you only needed to create a poster for Peter Snell the runner. I am not sure if maybe you added the extra information on purpose?
Are there maybe any other things you learnt about Peter Snell that you would like to add?
Your presentation on this slide is lovely I really like the rainbow background and I like that you always add pictures to your work!

    Slide 36: 1970’s Songs
I am glad that you like Ray Columbus and the Invaders!
I quite liked the song too, it’s pretty catchy and the Invaders dance moves are awesome!
I really liked the Golden Harvest song, I liked the chorus and the melody of the song … their outfits and dances moves made me giggle too! :)
Do you prefer the music we listen to now? What is your favourite kind of music?

    Great job Molly!
    Ellee :)

  17. Kia ora Molly,

My name is Emiely (pronounced “Emily”) and I also work at the Summer Learning Journey! It looks like I’ll be the fourth Summer Learning Journey team member to be commenting on your blog. How exciting!

Slide 37: Thanks for sharing your honest opinions about 1970’s fashion! I do think it would get rather hot in the summer with bell bottomed pants on. There’s so much material on those things, especially in the flared parts at the bottom of the pants! I do think the red dress that lady is wearing is quite cute and I also really like her shoes. I don’t think I’d mind wearing them! Would you want to wear 1970’s fashion?

Slide 38: That was a very respectful and polite letter to Mrs O. Well done! I like the way you have greeted her and used your manners when asking for a bike shed. I use to have a bike too, but it stayed outside and over time became so rusty! A bike shed is an awesome request! Do you bike to school? Where else do you bike to and who do you usually go biking with?

It's awesome to see how actively you have been blogging this summer! Remember that you can always go back and add to the activities you have already completed to make sure they are the best blog posts that you can do. I know the Summer Learning Journey team have enjoyed reading and commenting on your blog. We can't wait to see what else you will blog!

    Noho ora mai,

    Emiely :)

  18. Kia ora Molly,

    It’s Emiely. :)

Slide 39: Super work completing the Hairy Maclary story! I like how you have created some rhyming in your story. How clever! You story sounds like havoc... Animals and humans running around, getting knocked over, screaming and barking like mad - complete havoc, I tell you! I really enjoyed it though and I thought you did a great job of that activity. I laughed at how the cat turned and everyone ended up getting scared of the cat. It’s a great comedic twist. Well done! I think in some parts where you write “the dog” maybe you could say the name of which dog it is so it doesn’t get too confusing. I’m interested to know which dog ran over the poor man!

Slide 40: I really like the way you have presented this blog post. I think it looks really interesting with all the different colours! I like that you have added a map and the flags of Germany and the Union Jack - this looks really effective. One day I would like to England too to visit the Buckingham Palace. I think it would be really interesting to see where the Queen is. I’d be interested to know how big the palace is in real life. It looks huge in the photos! Are there a particular places you wanted to visit in Germany and in England?

Slide 41: Queen Elizabeth II is a great person to interview! She has been the Queen for a long time and I bet she would have a lot of knowledge that she could share. I’d want to know how she spends her free time or if she gets any! I can imagine the Queen being quite a busy woman. What do you think it would be like, being Queen for the day? What are some things you would do?

    Keep up the great blogging!

    Noho ora mai,

    Emiely :)

  19. Kia ora Molly,

Slide 42: I really like how you use different backgrounds on your slides. This makes it really interesting to look through! Great work listing some things you will need and listing some things people can do to keep them safe. Some water and food is definitely ‘a must’ to keep you hydrated and energised! I’d also make sure I wore some sturdy, covered shoes like hiking boots to protect me from hurting my feet on things like tree roots. It’s definitely important to be aware of the weather. What do you think some problems might be if people don’t check the weather before they go hiking? What could happen to them? I don’t think it would be very safe!

Slide 43: It’s great to see you have made sure you’ve used the sentence starters from the template, but presented it the way that you wanted to. It looks great on your Google Slide. Well done, Molly! I’ve never heard of Mike Moore before so this was a very interesting read. Thanks for sharing! Are you sure he was New Zealand’s 3rd Prime Minister? I have a feeling we have had quite a number of Prime Ministers before Mike Moore. You might want to double check that and correct me if I’m wrong! Would you want to be the Prime Minister of New Zealand one day? Why or why not?

I can’t wait to hear from you. Keep up the great blogging!

    Noho ora mai,

    Emiely :)

  20. Hi Molly!

Man, your comment string is getting so long and so many and very impressive! It really shows how much hard work you have been putting in over the summer and that is amazing!

    Slide 44: Pay to Play
Thank you for sharing your opinion on paying for university. I appreciate your honest viewpoint and it was nice to hear what you think, especially since making changes to this would affect kids your age! Do you think you will go to university after high school?
I have to say the Polar Bears in the back of your slide are adorable ...are they just for decoration?

    Slide 45: Celebrations
This is a beautiful slide Molly! I really like your presentation - it’s colourful, bright and festive!
Sounds like you have amazing parties! I like that you play games for your birthday parties, we used to do the same! (I really like pass the parcel!)
Is the cake in the corner one your mum has made? It looks delicious! Do you have a favourite cake that she makes?
Do you get the person to sleep in so they don’t see the decorations? I tried to do that for my friend on her birthday but she fell asleep on the couch in the lounge! If I was really tricky I would have decorated around her but I thought I would wake her up!

    Slide 46: $300 Million
I think that this might be one of the most creative ways I have seen someone want to spend $300 million! This would be the most epic chocolate factory ever - Would you only make chocolates? Would people be able to visit? I am also interested to know if you would build the factory in Greymouth?
I like this idea Molly, I am getting all excited thinking about the crazy things you could do in a chocolate factory with $300 million!

Great work Molly, you are so far through the activities now and it's awesome to see!

    Ellee :)

  21. Hi Molly!

Wow you are working quickly through the final week of activities, you go girl! :)

    Slide 47: Selfies
Wow! That’s really cool that you know how to play the piano!
How long have you been playing for?
I think it is very impressive that you also know how to read music too!
I always wanted to learn how to play the guitar or drums but I haven’t got around to that yet! :)
Do you play any other instruments?
I am glad you enjoy reading - do you have any favourite books or authors?

    Slide 48: Richie McCaw
These are some great facts about Richie McCaw! It is interesting to learn more about a kiwi legend - Did you enjoy reading about him?
I heard the other day that he has his pilot license! I thought that was pretty cool.
I also enjoyed reading your questions you would ask him, I think I would like to know about what his favourite memory from his rugby career is and if he has a ritual he does before he goes onto the rugby field.

Great job Molly, keep up the amazing work with your slideshow, I can't wait to see more!

    Ellee :)

  22. Hi Molly

It's Allie!! I just wanted to say I have spent sometime this morning reading through your posts that you have been doing over the summer. You have done a fantastic job with all of your activities.
I really like that you have put them all in one slide show. I can see that you and Ellee have really enjoyed blogging with each other.
You are going to be really up to speed with all of your work on the chromebook over the summer. You will be a Mamaku expert!
Have you been using Richards chromebook? I bet you can't wait to get your own!

I hope you have had a really nice holiday Molly! Well done with all of your hard work.
I am looking forward to reading more of you posts. Keep blogging and I will see you soon back at Grey Main.

    Well done Molly

    Until next time

  23. Hey Molly!

It's really awesome that Allie has been able to take a look at your slideshow, you have done some wonderful work so it's only right that it should be shown off! :)

    Slide 49: Sports Heros
Molly, this is such a cool sports hero, specially since you want to be a swimmer!
I think she is such an impressive athlete, I can’t believe how many medals she has won. Maybe when you become an Olympic swimmer you will win just as many medals! :)
I think it is also really cool that you have picked a local sporting star.
Do you watch her compete in the Paralympics?
I think it would be pretty cool to meet her - Would you like to do that? Are there any questions you would like to ask her?

    Slide 50: Tango!
These are some really interesting facts about the Tango! I didn’t know much about the dance, I have only ever seen it on movies.
I’m not sure if you have seen the movie Take the Lead? It is a dance movie where some students learn how to ballroom dance and in the final competition some of them do a pretty impressive Tango. Here is a link if you want to watch it:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMIXtD6-WSE
Have you tried the Tango before? I think it looks like a lot of fun but very complicated :)

    Slide 51: Political Parties
Oh man I can tell that this will be a great team because you are already thinking about the best way to work together! I like that you have considered your Dad’s love for his garden and how important maintaining it would be - very sweet of you :) - I think this is also important as having such an important job would be a lot of pressure so having time to do things you enjoy would be important!
Is there something you think your coalition would focus on? Any changes you would make to New Zealand? ...I think I would like to make the weekend officially 3 days :)
Side note: I also think this colourful background is amazing....Did you make it yourself?

Keep up the amazing work Molly, you are almost all done!!
    Ellee :)
