Renee from the Summer Learning Journey Team here, again.

Ka pai on your excellent mahi on this blog post and recording yourself using Screencastify. This means that you have completed both the “Step It Up” and “Kick Start” aspects of this activity and will earn extra points towards your Summer Learning Journey tally! You are a great public speaker and I think that adding Screencastify videos to your blog posts make them even more engaging. It is so awesome that this post is dedicated to teaching others about the pigpen cipher - that is so helpful and interesting.

I really enjoyed learning about codes and ciphers as part of this activity - did you enjoy it as well? Do you think you will use the pigpen cipher to send secret messages to your friends and whānau?

I can’t wait to see your other posts over summer.

I had not heard of the pigpen cipher before this activity so I really enjoyed learning about it as well. I like that it is quite easy to understand once you know the key but to an outsider would be extremely challenging to figure out. When I was younger my sister and I used to make up our own secret codes and languages to communicate with one another. However, the trouble was that we would often make them too complicated and forget how they worked ourselves!

Have you taught anyone else the pigpen cipher yet?
