Celebrating My Success 2018

For one of our end of year activities we had to make a slide, Celebrating My Success which shows the highlights of this year. There were 9 tasks to complete, for each task we had to do some sort of activity to put into this slide. I thought this was a great activity to look back and see the highlights of this year.

Opinion Sharing

W.A.L.T: Give reasons to support an argument
This term we have been doing oral language around persuasion. We had to get into to groups and work together to come up with ideas about the statement we are doing. I did this activity with Aoife, Ruby, Zyah and Zoe.  I find this activity enjoyable because it is fun to think or different arguments.

Problem Solving Journey

W.A.L.T: Use the problem solving journey to get an answer.
This weeek for maths we have been given a question to solve, first we had to comprehend, then represent, after that we solved it, last of all we communicated it. We call this the PROBLEM SOLVING JOURNEY.  I find this an easy process to follow.

Facts/ Inferences

WALT : Infer {make a hunch}
-prior knowledge
- words
-visuals

This week we have been working on inferences, my group was doing the Three Billy Goats Gruff.
Inferences is when we predict is going to happen , from our prior knowledge or clues we can see on the item we are doing it on.

Times Table Diploma

WALT : Recall my times table to 10x10
When you thought you could do your times tables to 10x10 then you had to sit your big diploma. You wouldn't get it if you got one wrong and you needed to get the questions all right in time.
Next time I think I should get it in less time because when we were doing it we were listening to a division song which distracted me a lot. My next step learning is to learn multiples of numbers to 100.

Show not tell

WALT: Show not tell
-precise nouns,
-Simile, metaphor
-Senses

For this activity we had to write a paragraph from the picture and highlight what we can see, hear, touch, use precise nouns, verbs and adjectives. Also we had to include a simile or a metaphor, I included both. This activity was alright because we had to describe. My favourite part was making up the story. Can you spot any senses or nouns, verbs  or adjectives I have missed?

Problem solving

WALT: Apply our maths strategies to real life word problems.
For this activity we had to read each question carefully then decide what the key words in each problem are. Then we had to record the equation it is asking you to solve. Last but not least we solved each problem using words diagrams and symbols. I think this is a good maths activity below is mine.

The Girl and the Giraffe.

WALT: Write descriptive sentences

For this activity we had to make a story to tell what is happening in the picture. In our story we had to include descripition. This activity was all right but more difficult to get started as we had to use our imagination.

Next time I think I could describe more of what is in the picture so the reader gets a picture in their minds not just tell where the characters are going.

THE GIRAFFE AND THE GIRL!

“Please stay” whispers the girl as she tries to hold
back tears leading her  giraffe. Spotty [the giraffe]
and the girl are feeling sad as he is returning to his
natural habitat.

Spotty has long yellow legs with a yellow spotted
brown body. His tail swishes carefree in the wind,
carrying the whines of Spotty away. At least I will
soon be with my mother thought Spotty as he wanders
along.

As they approach the forest where the girl found the
giraffe all those years ago, cold and injured. Now they
can see the young giraffe’s mother approaching.

Quickly the girl takes off the lead. The young giraffe
approaches his mother.  The girl starts crying as the
giraffes slowly walk into the forest, but she knows it is
the best for Spotty.

Fraction thinkboard

This term we have been learinng about fractions.  For this activity we had to choose a fraction, write the decimal and show the fraction in different ways.

This was alright but since I chose an improper fraction,23/5,  then I didn't know what to do at the start. Once I had it explained again I understood it and now I know what to do.

The decimal was easy because we have a decimal chart which has one fifth on it so I just had to double it a few times. On the number line I just made a table then put the lines were they are on the table. The rest were easy as well especially equivalent because that is just another fraction which means 23/5.

Nessie Vocabulary Task

This term we have been doing research on unknown creatures, at the moment we are doing Nessie. We had to pick a word out of the text and research what it has to do with Nessie, I did Exists. I thought this activity was esay because all we had to do was get a word out of the text and tell what it had to do with Nessie.

Next time I think that I should add more information about Nessie.

Billy goats Setting Map

For this activity we had to draw the setting of The Three Billy Goats Gruff.  First we listened to the story and identified the different settings.  Then we drew our map andnumbered each place on the map from the first place in the story through to the last setting. We had to tell the places that the numbers are by writing a key to go with our map.

I thought this activity was alright because you got to design the setting map.  Next time I would include more detail in my map so people can imagine they are in the story.

What Makes a Fairy Tale a Fairy Tale?

W.A.L.T : Locate fairy tales in a libary useing the Dewey Decimal System.
I thought this activity was fun but challenging to find where the fairy tales were in the library. We thought that they were in the fiction area but after a while we found out that they were in the non fiction area. When we finally found the fairy tales we got started on what makes a fairytale a fairytale.
Next time I think that when we are searching in the libary I should use equipment which is helpful around us.

Nessie the Loch ness Monster

This term we are exploring unsolved mysteries, Nessie is one of them so here is mine. In this activity you had to highlight the keywords from the text that describe Nessie then draw nessie.
I thought this activity was fun because you got to draw how you thought Nessie looked like.

My profile for PrEP

W.A.L.T Write a personal profile to apply for a job during PrEP.

This year for PREP we had to apply for a job and I chose to be a banker.

When you are a banker you have to be good at maths. Are you good at Maths?
Also you need to be let to be a banker. I hope Mrs O' Sullivan lets me be a banker.
If you are not allowed to be a banker or the job you wanted to be you have to work in class.

I thought this activity was alright but you had to think carefully of what you were going to put on so you convinced the Principal to employ you.  We also had to write an accompanying letter.

My Treasure

W.A.L.T Use conjuntions to join our ideas together and include descriptive detail.
This task was to think of someting precious to you and write about it.  I thought this activity was fun but hard to choose which thing to write about.
I think I went all right with the W.A.L.T but I could use more conjunctions next time, This is my piece below.
The conjunctions are the FANBOYS which are, for, and, nor, but, or, yet and so. How many FANBOYS do I have in my writing? Comment below.

Descriptive sentences T1W5

Nikau palm, is a tall native tree that grows in New Zealand, which has a rough brown trunk with spiky green leaves only growing out of the top.

This is only 1 sentence of my Nikau palm description.
My class had to go to our school garden and look at our Nikau palm,
Some of us did not know what a Nikau was!
We had to draw how it looked and name parts of the tree.
We soon had all the information to write our story.
