UV indicator and protection

I am very sorry I am so late on this post. It is because when this activity was due it was my dads birthday and then yesterday I didn't get round to do the SLJ.

For this activity I learnt a lot about UV lights and sun protection and sun cream. My favourite part of this activity was probably designing the indicator.

I also did the step it up which is below.

Its cool to be kind

I found this activity easy. I went onto the last comment that was posted on my blog which was on December the 20th. I then replied and that was a SLJ activity complete. For the step it up we had to fill out a form and put the link to the comment in. I also did that.

Compressive strength

Today for the experiment I had already done all the prep if you want to see what the the prep was click here. The circular ones ended up also holding my scissors, all the pencils and rubbers. It still hadn't collapsed but I didn't know what else to put on it so I stopped.  I was surprised when the flat ones couldn't even hold the roof, when nano girl did it it managed to hold the roof. I enjoyed this activity.

Origami Butterfly

For the SLJ today I did an easy Origami butterfly that you can make. I have done one of these before so it was an easy go to when I read what I had to do.

Origami star

Here is my origami star. TIP: make sure the measurements are right. Give it a try, here is the video on how to make the star.

My jingle bells (singing edition) & the difference between northern and southern hemisphere at Christmas time.

The difference between the northern and southern hemisphere

The biggest difference between the northern and southern hemisphere at Christmas time is the weather. In the northern hemisphere it is winter while in the southern it is summer. This results in people in the northern hemisphere to more likely to go to bed early and in the southern hemisphere to stay up later. Another difference that people are seeing more of is that in the southern hemisphere people are using fake Christmas trees while in the northern they are still using real ones. Due to the different seasons even the presents can be different. In the southern hemisphere because it is summertime you are more likely to get something for the outside like a cricket set. In the northern hemisphere you probably aren't going to get that because of the wet weather and the snow and you don't really play cricket in those conditions.

The Mangere Collage made some lyrics about rising. I decided to make mine similar and did mine on being on top.

Maori

For the SLJ we had to make a video of us saying some of the greetings we learnt. From the slide below.

Learning Maori

For the SLJ we looked at the slide and
learnt a lot of new Maori words and how
to pronounce them. We also had to fill in
the slide. Then we had to draw a picture of
what my family and I did today. We went
swimming so I drew all of us at the pool.

Optical Ilusion

For this activity I had to make a video of me showing you how to make an optical ilusion. I made an Oval shape one. Here's a photo above and below the link to the video.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1glXYUKIkFNW04yVtv8upIsk8gRLSouxz/view

Optical illusion

Today I made an infinite triangle. I had never made an infinite triangle before but it was pretty easy. First you need to draw an equilateral triangle. Next you need to make triangles in the corners by adding a line. After that you want to attach each corner to the other but so the lines are parallel to the original triangle. Next draw three new lines parallel to the nner triangle. That is it but you might not see it because there is a few lines to rub out. For better instructiontions go here.

Step it up Kowhiawhia

For this activity we did the same as the last activity just we stepped it up. This time
we used two shapes and also flipped the shapes. I flipped the koru horizontally.

Kowhawhai

For this activity we made a kowhaiwhai. I learnt something because I had never heard
of a kowhaiwhai before. We got given a simple koru/fern and could rotate it to make a
pattern which is basically a kowhaiwhai. When you go in a marae on the roof you
should see kowhawhai.

Butterfly

I named my creation pÅ«rerehua ataahua

 meaning beautiful butterfly in Maori.

I used grass for the antenna and body,

ferns for the bottom wings and large

daisy's for the top wings. I decided to

use ferns because they are native to NZ

and I wanted my butterfly to be typically

a NZ butterfly.

Teeth

Today for the SLJ I did some catch, for this activity we watched a comic but
didn't know what they were saying so had to guess what they were saying by
what happend. I filled out a template saying what I thought.

Careers

Miss Power read us a bit about Josh and Ana's Careers. We filled out this
table to show that we understood the story's.

Kids lit

On Tuesday my school participated in the Kids Lit competition. I had never participated

before and it was so fun.  My dad was watching and in the parents questions he won a

book. I am currently reading that book and am so occupied in it. My team did really well

and ended up 3rd. In the round we jokered we got all the questions right so instead of

getting 10 points we got 20.

Today we did a stop motion. My group consisted of Ruby, Aoife, Taylor, Storm and I.

Our theme was on keep trying even when it is challenging. We did one on a netball

game where someone had to go on when they had never played before. I think it went

really well.

Grandparents day

Today was Grandparents day . My Class did a piece of writing on their

grand parents here's mine.

Oma

She has a big heart always helping and caring for people. We have fun skype talks

because we live so far away. I use my basic german and she is always patient and

understanding. When she used to work she was a preschool teacher at the same

school as her identical twin. She has a big jar of lollies which when Richard was there

magically disappeared.
